Activity Description

This educational activity will address pharmacy billing in a specialty setting. Benefit types, basic billing, details pertaining to Medicare Part B billing and common rejection codes will be discussed. Financial assistance options for different coverage types will be reviewed and resources will be listed for learners’ reference.

Learning Objectives

The target audience for this activity includes pharmacy technicians. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe necessary processing information.
  • List possible insurance types and billing scenarios for specialty medications.
  • Describe common rejection codes.
  • List requirements for billing oral agents to Medicare Part B.
  • List secondary payer options for Medicare Part B.
  • Describe some of the billing nuances associated with Medicare Part B.
  • Outline resources for researching copay assistance.
  • Determine financial assistance options available based on patient benefit coverage.
  • Identify information necessary to apply patient for various copay assistance options.
