Description and Audience

The Sterile Compounding Certificate Program is an online course for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians interested in developing and demonstrating expertise in sterile compounding. The program utilizes self-study modules to gain expert understanding of compounding standards and regulations, and a practical component in a virtual cleanroom environment where users will learn and practice sterile compounding skills and technique.

Sterile Compounding Certificate Program Goals

The program goals/learning objectives are the following:

  • Discuss the general duties and responsibilities of compounding and quality personnel with an emphasis on quality and safety.
  • Discuss the regulatory requirements and standards related to compounding nonsterile and sterile preparations.
  • Identify the requirements for standard operating procedures (SOP) and the importance of maintaining SOPs for sterile compounding.
  • Describe processes and procedures related to handling active pharmaceutical ingredients and maintaining supply inventory.
  • Describe the genesis of USP <800> and discuss strategies and attributes for a USP <800> compliant compounding space.
  • Demonstrate proper sterile compounding technique in a virtual cleanroom through the successful creation of assorted compounded sterile preparations.

Sterile Compounding Certificate Program Structure

The certificate training program consists of on-demand, self-study modules and virtual cleanroom components to learn and practice sterile compounding skills. A Sterile Compounding Program Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants successfully completing the program.
