Recent Developments and Comparisons of Brain Function Monitors

Program Description

This CD program will review the development of brain function monitoring, and its application in helping to prevent awareness during general anesthesia. We shall trace the history of processes electroencephalogram devices from the early 1980s until the most current monitors. We will also compare and contrast the monitors that are on the market today with respect to their basic measurement and processing principles.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, physicians and nurses will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits and limitations to using brain function monitoring during general anesthesia

  • Trace the development of brain function monitoring devices

  • Compare and contrast current brain function monitors
